op 10 finalists of the first Archipelago Fish Cooking Competition (LMIN) 2017 cooked for the president at the Presidential Palace on August 15.

President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Jokowi attended the event to taste the dishes that were presented. Several ministers were also present including health minister Nila Djuwita Moeloek, minister of maritime affairs and fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti and minister for foreign affairs Retno Marsudi.

“These are all delicious,” President Jokowi commented on the dishes.

The event was initiated by the state secretariat, health ministry, maritime affairs and fisheries ministry, the presidential staff office, tourism ministry, masaktv and primarasa.co.id.

“Our oceans are huge and have plenty of underwater resources including fishes. Fishes have a high nutritional value that is needed for children and families. We need to increase fish consumption significantly,” Jokowi added.

Susi Pudjiastuti said that culinary can also help in promoting Indonesian tourism.

“The more famous our food is, the more it will be remembered by tourists,” said Susi.

Apart from the competition, finalists also attended workshops on topics such as Safety Procedure for President’s Food, Presidential Reception Etiquette, How to Cook in a Professional Kitchen and Food Hygiene.

Out of the 10 finalists, three were selected as winners. The first winner was Abdul Kadir from Pontianak who cooked Botok Ikan Masak Putih, the second winner was Ruben Jeremia from Jakarta who cooked Gabus Pucung Sambal Pete and the third winner was Narti Buo from Gorontalo who cooked Ikan Santan Goroho.
