orth Gorontalo is slated to host the 10th Saronde Island Charm Festival on September 27 - 28. The festival will feature activities such as traditional boat rally and beach volley game that will be joined by all regencies and cities in Gorontalo.

“There will also be landscape photography, arts and culture, traditional pantun [four-line rhymes] or Palolohungolopoli, Langga, boat decorating and drone video competitions. The festivities will be closed with the coronation of putra putri Saronde and a kite competition,” explained North Gorontalo tourism department, Frits Ano.

Dozens of boats from Sail Sabang 2017 will also be directed to make a stop at Saronde Island during the festival.

“If the past events were mostly enjoyed by domestic tourists, this year we are hoping to increase the number of international tourists so the economy will also increase,” Frits added.

Saronde Island is a white-sand beach located in Ponelo district, North Gorontalo. The exact location is at Kwandang Bay, Kwandang district, about 65 kilometers from the center of Gorontalo city.

The island houses cottages located at the shore, there’s also a small forest and a cliff that stretches from the south to the east of Saronde Island. Its clear seawater allows visitors to witness the beauty of marine life in plain view.

Meanwhile, the area from the north to the west is a sandy plainland, Saronde Island is surrounded by small islands and that makes it the best place for island-hopping. (asw)
