Bintan Island in Riau will host on Aug. 18-19 the Ironman 70.3 triathlon.
The event serves as a qualification round for the Ironman World Championship, which will take place at Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa, on Sept. 1-2.
Ironman 70.3, or the Half Ironman, will gather athletes from around the globe for a race that includes a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-km bicycle route and a 21-km run.

Lagoi Plaza, located in Bintan Resort, was chosen as the headquarters of the event because of its status as the area’s tourism hub.
According to kompas.com, the Ironman 70.3 committee had made several changes to the race.
Nathalie Marquet, CEO of Singapore-based sport management company MetaSport, said the main changes included the swimming and running arena, so athletes could achieve their peak performance.
This year’s Ironman 70.3 will be attended by 1,500 adult athletes, while 300 junior athletes will take part in the IronKids Fun Run. Participants of previous Ironman races will also be present. (anm/wng)
