atam in Riau Islands has set its sights on developing its service industry and will focus on areas such as animation and tourism.
"We want to continue to develop in the service industry, such as in tourism," BP Batam head Lukita Dinarsyah Tuwo said at a business gathering on connecting Batam with the Asia-Pacific in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Lukita said Batam had thus far focused on the manufacturing industry, such as electronic assembly, medical equipment and industrial machinery, but wanted to focus more on developing the service industry.
He said such development was already in place, as evidenced by the region's endeavors in animation and filmmaking – Batam is the production location for many HBO Asia films.
