he guests of several hotels in Palu have been evacuated to a safe location following a major earthquake and ensuing tsunami that struck the city and Donggala regency in Central Sulawesi on Friday.

"There are several cracks in Hotel Santika Palu’s walls, but Alhamdulillah [thank God] the building is still standing. All the guests have been evacuated and Alhamdulillah there are no fatalities among our guests and staff," the hotel’s public relations officer, Karin, told KompasTravel on Monday.

Karin added that the hotel was no longer occupied and the most of the guests have left Palu. However, several of the hotel's employees are still at the property guarding it.

Meanwhile, the Swiss-Belhotel Silae Palu was also damaged.

"The hotel's staff and guests, who were in the hotel at the time of disaster, survived and they are waiting to be evacuated," said Swiss-Belhotel International's regional director of public relations and promotions, Harshanty Kaloko, on Monday.

The guests were taken to Mutiara Sis Al Jufri Airport.

Hotel Mercure Palu, which is located on the shores of Palu Bay near the Apung Palu Mosque and Palu IV bridge, was also damaged. 

"Mercure Palu was damaged by the earthquake. Our focus right now is on the safety and security of our guests and staff," said Accor Hotel Indonesia and Malaysia's assistant public relations and communications manager, Chrisna Rianti. (kes)
