After months of closure as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, several recreational spots in Yogyakarta have reopened under strict health protocols.
ith its cultural attractions, wide-ranging cuisines and natural wonders, Yogyakarta remains a favorite destinations for travelers in the country.
As some tourist destinations reopen under health protocols, visitors are once again welcome to explore the province’s attractions, but visitors are required to download the Jogja Pass and Visiting Jogja apps.
The first app features an emergency call button connected to nearby hospitals and contains information on COVID-19. The latter offers online booking for tourist destinations.
Below is a list of 10 destinations in Yogyakarta that are now open, as compiled by kompas.com.
1. Agrowisata Bhumi Merapi
Situated on Jl. Kaliurang Nomor KM 20, Pakem, Sleman, this site offers picturesque views and a chance to interact with live animals such as horses and sheep.
It is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an entrance fee of Rp 25,000 (US$1.69) per person.
2. Panguk Kediwung Hill
This hill is a popular place to watch the sunrise and to enjoy the natural beauty of the area’s hills and forests.
Located in Kediwung, Dlingo, Bantul district, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available on the Visiting Jogja app.
3. Banyu Langit Gate
Open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., this attraction allows tourists to enjoy water activities and marvel at a three-story bamboo tower.
It is located on Jl. Bintaran Kulon in Bantul.
4. Kalisuci Cave
Travelers who are interested in cave tubing can head to Kalisuci Cave in Jetis Wetan village, Pacarejo subdistrict, Gunungkidul.
Visitors can explore the river for 90 minutes for Rp 120,000 for domestic tourists and Rp 250,000 for foreign tourists.
5. Watu Purbo Waterfall
This six-story waterfall is located in Dukung Bangunrejo, Sleman, and was originally a dam made in 1975 to restrain overflow if Mount Merapi erupted.
The site’s opening hours and entrance fee are available on the Visiting Jogja app.
6. Baron Beach
Open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., this beach is located in Kemadang Village, Gunungkidul district.
For Rp 10,000 per person, tourists can enjoy water activities and visit a nearby lighthouse.
7. Breksi Cliff
This place is famous for its breccia rocks with unique shapes and carvings.
It was once a quarry and was named a cultural heritage area in 2015. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Ijo Temple and Ratu Boko Temple from the top of the cliff.
The destination is open Tuesday to Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. with an entrance fee of Rp 5,000 per person.
8. Taman Pintar (Smart Park)
Open Wednesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., this park offers educational rides and a planetarium.
Tickets are available on the Visiting Jogja app.
9. Kalibiru
A famous tourist destination, Kalibiru offers numerous spots for selfies.
Visitors can also take a scenic treck along the hill. Kalibiru is located in Hargowilis, Kulon Progo district.
10. Mount Merapi Museum
Situated on Jl.Kaliurang KM 22, Sleman, this museum features collections and information on Mount Merapi.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Friday, it is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
