ndonesia has condemned “violent actions” committed by Israeli security forces in a clash against Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem on Friday, which injured more than 150 people.

“The acts of violence against civilians cannot be justified and must be stopped, especially at a prayer site like the Al Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Twitter on Saturday.

The clash occurred early on Friday, when Israeli police said in a statement that dozens of masked men entered Al-Aqsa Mosque “chanting inciting messages and setting off fireworks” and collecting stones, wooden planks and large objects, which were then used in a violent riot".

The crowds later began to hurl rocks in the direction of the Western Wall, prompting the police to “enter the grounds surrounding the mosque”, adding that they did not enter the mosque.

But Al-Aqsa Mosque director Omar Al-Kiswani told AFP that an assault was made inside the mosque, displacing more than 80 people who were inside.

Witnesses said Palestinian protesters threw stones at Israeli security forces, who fired rubber-coated bullets and stun grenades toward some of them.
