Indonesia condemns plan to rebuild over 1,000 Israeli settlements in Palestine
Indonesia issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s plan to rebuild over 1,000 housing units of settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, reiterating that such settlements were illegal and a violation of international law.

ndonesia issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s plan to rebuild over 1,000 housing units of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, reiterating that Israeli settlement in such areas was a violation of international Law.
On the Foreign Ministry Twitter account, Indonesia says not only is the Israeli settlement a violation of international law, it also obstructs the achievement of peace based on the two-state solution according to internationally agreed parameters.
“Indonesia urges the United Nations Security Council to immediately hold a special meeting to stop this illegal resettlement process. Indonesia also continues to encourage the international community to unite in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people,” the ministry said on Twitter on Monday.
Israel-based watchdog group Peace Now publicizes the tenders announced by the Israel Land Authority last Wednesday for the construction of 940 housing units in the West Bank and 89 in East Jerusalem.
The published tender was revealed despite a meeting between Israel and Palestine leaders in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on March 19, agreeing to calm tensions during the month of Ramadan.
“Despite Israel’s commitments to its allies around the world, it appears to continue promoting construction that harms the chances for a political agreement and increases tensions between Israelis and Palestinians in both the short and long term,” Peace Now said in its statement on Friday.

Following days of protest by Israeli citizens, Netanyahu announced he was pausing his judicial reform plan until the Israeli parliament returned, after its break for the Jewish Passover holiday and Israel Independence Day next month.
"Israeli society is on a dangerous collision course. We are in the midst of a crisis that is endangering the basic unity between us," Netanyahu said in a televised address late on Monday, Reuters reported.
Tensions have also been broiling between Israel and Palestine, with the Palestinian Foreign Ministry accusing Israeli settlers of arson against a family home in Sinjel, West Bank, on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the armed group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed to have carried out a shooting that wounded two Israeli soldiers in Huwara, West Bank, on Saturday.
Israel is also at the center of a controversy surrounding the 2023 U-20 FIFA World Cup set to be held in Indonesia in May, with the nation’s license to host the championship in jeopardy following protests from Muslim groups and local politicians against Israel’s participation in the tournament.
