he third batch of humanitarian aid from the Indonesian government, totaling 143 tonnes of supplies including food and medical equipment, arrived on Thursday evening in Myanmar, which has been devastated by a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the northwestern region of Sagaing on March 28

Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Pratikno and National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head Lt. Gen. Suharyanto were among the officials who symbolically handed over the US$1.3 million relief package at a ceremony on April 3 in Naypyidaw.

Myanmar was represented at the ceremony by Soe Kyi, the deputy minister for social welfare, relief and resettlement, and Win Thu Htet, a consular and legal affairs official from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

In a statement following the event, the Indonesian officials said they had traveled to Naypyidaw hoping to inspire “moral support for disaster-stricken Myanmar”.

“We express our concern and condolences on behalf of [President] Prabowo Subianto, representing the people of Indonesia to the people of Myanmar,” Pratikno said during the ceremony, according to a statement from the BNPB.

“This assistance is a form of commitment between ASEAN countries, including in the field of disaster management. [...] We’ve delivered much-needed logistics for the victims, including women and children,” he said.

According to data from Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry, the earthquake has claimed over 2,800 lives, while local reports estimate the toll might have surpassed 3,000 fatalities as of Thursday.
