ccompanied by the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”, Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Marwan Jafar, along with members of legendary band Slank welcomed the people of Singkawang, who came in hordes to Krisdasana Stadium on Sunday.

In his opening remarks, Marwan invited Slankers, the term attributed to fans of Slank, to take part in building border regions.

"The aims and objective of the Slank concert being held in a border region are to inspire the bordering areas so that development in the boundary regions is accelerated together," Marwan said.

The priority of the President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla administration, according to Marwan, is to develop Indonesia from the edges, villages and border areas. The government continues in its efforts so that development runs smoothly; development is also prioritized to reduce evident disparity, whether between Java and outside of Java, villages and cities, center and border areas.

"Border regions, as part of outskirts, often get neglected. Whereas these areas are actually part of our own backyard," he said.

Marwan also reminded Slankers in border regions to avoid drugs and work for regions and border areas. "When our bordering regions are advanced, then we too advance. That's why we must abandon drugs and build border regions," Marwan said.

Minister Marwan along with the band Slank sign the inscription of the Indonesia Border Concert. The concert was a commitment by the artistic community to support President Joko Widodo's principle of Nawa Cita to develop Indonesian border areas.

"My participation with Slank in the concert held in this border region is a realization of the government's commitment to work with the community to develop border regions," he said.

Slank and Marwan will hold another Indonesian Borders concert on May 30 in Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara.
