cores of well-heeled, highly fashionable people crowded the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in South Jakarta on Thursday morning, which marked the opening of Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2016.

Among the attendees were Putri Indonesia 2016 Kezia Roslin Cikita Warouw, actress Rianti Cartwright, Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani, and top designers Musa Widyatmodjo and Poppy Dharsono, who acted as the event coordinator and IFW president, respectively.

"IFW aims to help local designers promote their products locally and internationally. This year's theme, 'Reflections of Culture', highlights Indonesian culture so that we [designers] might be able to create our own identity when it comes to competing globally," said Poppy during the opening ceremony.

Highlights of the event include fashion shows by Italian fashion designer Camillo Bona and a parade of 17 fashion creations, each designed by the country's top designers such as Pusaka Iwan Tirta, Poppy Dharsono, Ghea Panggabean, Dian Pelangi, Adjie Notonegoro and Ardistia New York.

Attendees of the four-day fashion week can also expect to explore at up to 32 fashion shows from local designers, 480 fashion tenants, a fashion competition, talk shows, seminars and workshops. IFW runs until March 13. (kes)
