amous for being bold and making breakthroughs in design as well as technology, Apple has been expected to dump aluminum casing in its upcoming smartphones and opt for a glass back instead.
The move was deemed necessary to differentiate iPhone from its competitors and make it stand out in the tight market, appleinsider.com reported, based on a note released by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo stated that Apple might also adopt an AMOLED display next year to compensate for the added weight of a slightly heavier glass casing.
"While 100 percent of iPhones are currently made with aluminum bodies, the number will fall to 40 percent or less following the launch of the 2017 iPhone," said Kuo.
Kuo has made correct predictions in the past in terms of Apple's future product plans. His latest included all of the hardware specifications for Apple's newly launched iPhone SE and its US$400 to $500 price range.
It has been estimated that Apple's upcoming smartphone, iPhone 7, will be released in September. (kes)
