ndonesian and French artists are set to collaborate in Printemps Français 2016, a French-Indonesian cultural festival slated to be held in 10 cities across Indonesia, including Bali.

Various events are scheduled to grace Bali from May 7 to June 11 such as music concerts and contemporary wayang performances as well as architecture exhibitions and cultural parades.

Sundanese singer Neneng Dinar and musicians Yoyon Darsono and Dede Suparman will collaborate with French ensemble group Doulce Mémoire in a performance entitled "The Music from a Lost Land" at Bentara Budaya Bali in Gianyar on May 7.

Specializing in the interpretation of Renaissance music, Doulce Mémoire became acquainted with Sundanese traditional musicians while touring the country last year.

On May 10, French contemporary puppet company Les Rémouleurs is scheduled to hold a performance around a figure called the Bird. Eight meters wide and lifted up with helium-filled balloons and controlled by puppeteers, the Bird will soar into the evening sky.

Amandine Grisard, the Bali director of Alliance Français, said that the key word of the festival was “collaboration.”

"The event will show off the best of French art combined with the best of Indonesian art," she said.

In addition to Bali, the festival will also hold events in Jakarta, Balikpapan, Bandung, Makassar, Malang, Medan, Semarang, Surabaya and Yogyakarta between April 28 and June 11. (kes)
