ome appliances company Dyson, known for its bladeless fans, is making its first foray into the beauty market with its Supersonic hair dryer.

The Dyson hair dryer is being launched on Wednesday in Japan, and will be available in Singapore from the third quarter of this year.

Local pricing is not yet available, but it is selling in Japan for 45,000 yen (US$416.47).

Like Dyson's signature fans, the hair dryer is bladeless, and produces a jet of air with a digital motor in the dryer's handle. The air intake is also in the handle, to reduce the chance of hair getting caught in the motor.

The dryer comes with three different nozzles, including a smoothing nozzle and a diffuser. It has four heat settings - three hot airflow settings and a cold airflow setting.

According to Dyson, the company spent almost 50 million pounds ($73 million) and four years to develop the hair dryer. The company also tested it on 1,010 miles (1,625 kilometers) of real human hair, and has over 250 patents pending for the technology used in it.
