'Captain America: Civil War' is a must-watch, says DC fan boy While the comic arc is one of the largest clashes of Marvel superheroes of all time, the new addition to the Marvel cinematic universe draws its themes more from friendship. (Marvel/Ryan Meinerding & Andy Park)

"Captain America: Civil War" is out, and it is arguably one of the most influential movies in the Marvel cinematic universe.

The movie is based on one of the largest Marvel comic book arcs of all time, known as the "Civil War". While the comic arc is one of the largest clashes of Marvel superheroes of all time, which focuses on the regulation of superheroes, the new addition to the Marvel cinematic universe draws its themes more from friendship, and really develops the characters of each of the Avengers, at the same time as adding a few new members to the team.

Marvel has once again pulled off its movie magic with this movie. Despite being a DC fan boy, I can say from the bottom of my heart that this is the best superhero movie I have ever seen, a perfect entity; from the cuts shown on the trailer, to the revealing of new characters and most importantly – the plot.

From the beginning, Marvel showed comic book fans, through its trailers, that the movie would have elements of superhero regulation politics weaved into it.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The movie has torn apart Iron Man and Captain America, pitting them against each other and, in the middle of it all, is Bucky, or his more popular name, the Winter Soldier.

What makes this movie so great are the reasons that each of the characters have for picking either the side of Iron Man or Captain America.

Whether it be Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) not being able to control her powers, or the new Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) who has just taken the Throne of Wakanda and is on a quest of revenge against Bucky for killing his father, the movie provides the audience with a glimpse into the human sides of the characters, while at the same time addressing the question that has been widely neglected in these movies: "What are the consequences of the actions of superheroes, and how should they be dealt with?".

The action scenes that litter the movie are some of the best that I’ve ever seen, although that might be because of the sheer number of superheroes we see on the screen.

As a comic book fan, I was mostly excited about how many of the newer, less distinguished Marvel superheroes such as Ant-Man, Black Panther and, most importantly, Spiderman. Well, I can now safely say that all these characters were portrayed perfectly. Ant-man kept his wit and Spiderman is a reflection of the Spider-Man in the comics, never far from spouting a mouthy quip.

To be honest, I was not excited at the prospect of the fresh-faced 19-year-old Tom Holland playing such an important superhero, but I have to eat my words, because he blew me away with his perfect portrayal of Spider-Man.

To all the Spider-Man fans out there, I think you will be happy.

Finally, the ending of the movie and the one spoiler that I will not be revealing in this review. Because for those of you who have not seen it, it really brings everything together and adds a new layer to the relationship between Iron Man and Captain America that could have repercussions in the rest of the Marvel cinematic universe.

All I will say is bravo to the Russo brothers for adding this revelation at the end of the movie, and also bravo for the rest of this movie, because it is probably the greatest comic book movie I’ve seen, ever. You have portrayed one of the best comic book arcs in the best way possible and I would recommend everyone to watch it as soon as possible.

Final score: 9/10
