Renowned Indonesian fashion designer Denny Wirawan has made an elegant and modern kaftan collection the centerpiece of his recent fashion show.

I dedicate this collection also to the upcoming Ramadhan. For some sequences and in the last one, I showcased kaftans,” Denny told Kompas after hosting his fashion show themed ‘A Love Summer Dream Spring Summer 2016’ at Dharmawangsa Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday.

With the Balijava collection, Denny aimed to introduce a fresher, more elegant and modern look to kaftans. He explained that the design of kaftans can be beautifully elevated by combining it with batik.

Denny is said to have achieved a breakthrough by creating a jumpsuit kaftan for his collection.

There are kaftans in the form of jumpsuits, which look like trousers. It’s a modern look, so it’s more edgy,” he said.

Denny said the jumpsuit freshened up his collection because the look was timeless and suitable for both formal and non-formal occasions. He added that kaftans were a smart solution for plus-size women because they could help flatter their figures.

For some occasions during Eid, to my mind, the style of kaftan is everlasting,” he said. (asw)
