veteran Korean group is facing the possibility of disbanding. Early on Monday, it was announced that 4Minute, a 5-member girl group consisting of Nam Ji Hyun, Heo Ga Yoon, Jeon Ji Yoon, Kim Hyun Ah or HyunA, and Kwon So Hyun, may separate after seven years together.

The group is reportedly approaching the end of their contract, set to expire in mid-June. Presently, the only member that is slated to renew her contract is HyunA, while the others are still discussing the matter with their agencies. 4Minute has always displayed teamwork and friendship and the news has shocked fans.

“The views between the members on singing and acting are different. After months of discussion, they decided that it was hard to continue with the group," said an official in the industry as quoted by Yonhap

The group debuted in 2009 with Hot Issue and was the first group in Cube Entertainment. Since then, they have released many hit songs, including “Muzik”, Heart To Heart”, “What’s Your Name”, “Whatcha Doin’ Today”, “Volume Up, Crazy” as well as “Hate”. “Hate” was released earlier this year.

Recently, there has been a good deal of news surrounding K-Pop groups, particularly those that have been working for around seven years. In the K-pop community, people call it the "seven-year jinx". Prior to this news, reports circulated that Gong Minzy left 2NE1 and Jang Hyun Seung had moved on from BEAST. Other groups, such as After School and Secret, are also undergoing a long hiatus from recording and group activities. (kes)
