aving grossed over US$775 million worldwide, the comic book adaptation filled with action-packed violence, foul language and snarky humor, Deadpool, is now the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. Having been a great hit with both the public and critics alike, 20th Century Fox has given the go-ahead for a sequel, Deadpool 2.
Ryan Reynolds will be returning as the title character alonside director Tim Miller for the sequel, which is looking to commence production early 2017, says producer Simon Kinberg.
During an interview with Collider, Kinberg said, “The guys, [original screenwriters Paul] Wernick and Rhette [Reese], are working on the script, and we hope to have the script very soon.”

Although no concrete information has been released regarding the plot for Deadpool 2, fans have been clamoring for Deadpool to team up with the X-Force for a joint film. One thing that’s certain is the inclusion of Marvel’s Cable, an incredibly powerful mutant from the future who also happens to be Cyclops’ son. According to Entertainment Weekly, actors vying for the role range from Dolph Lundgren to Avatar’s Stephen Lang.
As for the existing characters, there has not been any official statement indicating that stars T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano and Brianna Hildebrand will be returning to play their characters in the upcoming sequel. However, seeing the success garnered since its February debut, it can be assumed that they’ll be back to continue the Deadpool saga. (sab/kes)
