hose interested in transforming their photos using the styles of renowned artists such as Van Gogh and Picasso or various ornaments and patterns can consider using Prisma, a unique art filters and photo effects app that has gone viral since being released in June with over 1 million users.

Unlike other apps that cover the photo with a filter, Prisma will recreate the photo from the very beginning due to its unique combination between neural networks and artificial intelligence (AI).

“We do the image fresh,” Prisma co-founder Alexey Moiseenkov told the Guardian on Thursday. “It is not similar to the Instagram filter where you just layer over [the photo]. We draw something like a real artist would.”

Using Prisma is quite easy. After taking a photo, the app will let you choose one from its 33 styles such as Mononoke, Wave and Wolf. It also includes the special ones that are inspired from The Scream by Edvard Munch and other famous styles. Moiseenkov said that more new styles would be coming soon. Afterwards, you can set the intensity of the style and then share the result through your social media accounts such as Instagram and Facebook.

Prisma developers are currently in the process of upgrading the app, particularly to enable users to use Prisma styles for their videos. The app is currently only available for iOS devices; the Android version reportedly would be available soon. (kes)
