If you like doing this, Jakarta is the right place to be as it hosts plenty of glitzy bars that require visitors to dress smartly and look chic.

From rooftop bar to glamorous lounge, here is our list of places to impress.

Skye Bistro and Lounge

Chic, upbeat and glamorous, Skye is a lifestyle landmark. Women must wear evening wear, while men don semi-formal attire. Skye has a small pool and an outdoor area where you can sit and sip while enjoying a selection of cocktails, finger foods and bar comforts. There are areas with comfy couches, or head to the lounge if you don’t feel like staring at the magnificent view of skyscrapers.

Entrance fee: Rp 150,000 (US$11.45) (added to your drinks tab)

Cloud Lounge and Dining

Unlike Skye, Cloud is more intimate, mellow and laid-back. There is no dress code, so as long as you don’t wear flip-flops, you’re free to go in. Since it’s located in an office building, The Plaza, on the 49th floor, you’ll be more likely to see office workers and their colleagues hanging out after work. Its take on the martini is great and strong, but the beers are a bit pricey. Aside from this, it is a great place to chill with one or two colleagues.

Colosseum Club

This is basically a club with magnificent laser shows and fantastic DJ performances. Those who come to Colosseum are usually fans of its trance music and exciting crowds. The place itself is vast and spacious, and the club is obviously proud of its 16-meter ceiling that successfully stuns visitors, especially when alight with attractive laser displays. The club regularly invites prominent DJs, such as Spanish Chus + Ceballos, who are famous in Barcelona, Spain, and Milano’s Merk & Kremont.

Entrance fee: Rp 200,000 (Friday to Saturday); Rp 100,000 (Wednesday & Thursday); closed on other days

Immigrant

Located in Plaza Indonesia, Immigrant is considered upscale. You can go for a drink or to enjoy music, or both. The restaurant and club areas are located next to each other, enabling diners to easily move to the club if they feel like dancing. Do note that the crowds usually start after 11 p.m. Immigrant also has an outdoor area if you want to chill and relax with your friends. The club is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. No flip-flops allowed.

Entrance fee: First drink charge

Fable

If you feel like partying outdoors with glowing city lights as a background, then Fable is the place to go. Located within SCBD, the club offers hip crowds and an exciting vibe, with more younger visitors during the weekend. It is open from Thursday to Saturday, starting from 11 p.m. onward. Do note that the club will not allow visitors wearing hats and backpacks, and female visitors must wear heels.

Entrance fee: Rp 150,000

Head to Awan Lounge for a laid-back night out. Despite not allowing visitors to wear sandals, the place is very cozy and lush as it is surrounded by trees and has eclectic outdoor furniture. Its take on bar food is great and the staff are also friendly. During the weekend, it can be exceptionally busy, so make sure you have a table reserved if you want to come on Saturday or Sunday night. (kes)
