ollowing negative reviews for Suicide Squad on movie review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, fans of the film have launched a petition calling for the site to be shut down.

As of Thursday afternoon, the petition had received over 17,600 signatures after the movie had received 31 percent on the Tomatometer, which measures the percentage of approved critics who recommend a certain movie. "We need this site to be shut down because its critics always give the DC Extended Universe movies unjust bad reviews, like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad," stated the petition, which was initiated by 22-year-old Abdullah Saleh from Alexandria, Egypt, according to Reuters.

Suicide Squad, out in Indonesian cinemas since Wednesday, follows a rogue group of DC Comics anti-heroes who are captured and held hostage by Gotham’s government to be used as weapons to protect the city.

Critics like Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair called it, “too shoddy and forgettable to even register as revolting”, while Robbie Collin of The Daily Telegraph wrote, “The film makes you cringe so hard your teeth come loose".

Saleh told Reuters that he did not actually want to shut down the site but instead wanted to show “that there are a lot of people who disagree with their reviews”.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros., the company behind DC, apparently still owns a minority stake in Rotten Tomatoes, so ironically by petitioning to close down the website fans are petitioning against the studio that actually made the movie.

Despite the disappointing reviews, as with Batman vs. Superman with even worse reviews, Suicide Squad is still believed to be a movie that will make a huge amount of money. (tif/kes)
