ix Indonesian movies are slated to be screened at the third Festival del Cinema di Indonesia (Indonesian Film Festival) at Cinema Space Alfieri in Florence, Italy, on Sept. 23-25.

The six movies are Filosofi Kopi (Coffee Philosophy), Jingga (Orange), Cahaya dari Timur: We are Mollucans (The Light from the East: We are Mollucans), Turis Romantis (Romantic Tourist), 1957's Tiga Dara (Three Ladies) and Pasukan Kapiten (The Soldiers' Army).

“We are trying to open a new market for Indonesian productions. The spirit of the festival is to promote Indonesia, its magnificent culture, its unique grace, its spirit of sacrifice and both its natural and artistic beauties,” said Jacopo Cappuccio, president of the festival's organizer Indonesia Meets Italy (IMI) to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday via email.

“We would like to start co-productions between Indonesia and Italy,” he said, adding that it was the only festival in Italy that solely screened Indonesian films.

In addition to film screening, the festival will also host Indonesian cuisine and an awards ceremony for Anggun C. Sasmi, who will be given the Key of the City award by the City of Florence for her role as Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at Palazzo Vecchio on Sept. 23.

Founded in 2013, IMI is a non-profit cultural association that focuses on discovering, preserving and promoting Indonesian culture in Italy. Aside from the film festival, it has also hosted other events such as the Batavia Madrigal Singer show by renowned conductor Avip Priatna in Florence and dance performances by the Indonesian Fine Arts Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta in Pietrasanta.
