ollowing six years of absence from the silver screen, Academy Award-winner Renée Zellweger is returning for the third installment of the Bridget Jones romantic comedy series. Bridget Jones’s Baby is directed by Sharon Maguire (Bridget Jones’s Diary, 2001) and is set to be released on Sept. 16.
“I feel like I know her pretty well, and a different kind of challenge because I’ve never had to show the ways in which person evolves in her life and the ways in which she doesn’t,” the actress told The New York Times, while adding that she also feels familiar with the character. “That’s my favorite stuff, by the way – that she just can’t help herself sometimes.”
The latest installment of the series adapted from the Helen Fielding novel still narrates the life of singleton Bridget Jones. Compared to previous films where Bridget was in her thirties and struggling to achieve her ideal weight and love life, the sequel features Bridget in her forties and living a new life where everything is under control. She has quit listening to “All By Myself” and decided to focus on her job as a TV producer, although she has broken up with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth).

However, Bridget’s life gets another stir when she meets Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey). Conflict starts when she finds out she is pregnant without knowing whether it is Jack or Mark who is the father of the baby.
Twelve years after Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), the sequel also stars Emma Thompson who was one of the screenwriters alongside Helen Fielding and Dan Mazer (Borat). One significant difference from the previous Bridget Jones movies is the absence of Hugh Grant, who plays Bridget's playboy ex, Daniel Cleaver. (asw)
