andung visitors can expect to marvel at new murals painted on the walls along Jl. Siliwangi as part of the city's celebration of the 19th National Games (PON), slated to take place between Sept. 17-29.
Tempo.co reports that up to 500 volunteers from 20 communities are set to participate in the mural repainting project dubbed #MuralBdg beginning on Tuesday.
Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil said he expected travelers and athletes participating in PON “to be entertained by the new murals”, adding that they had also been made to celebrate Bandung’s upcoming 206th anniversary.

Initiated by the Bandung Institute of Technology in collaboration with the PON 2016 committee, the 476-meter long murals will include 47 paintings with three different themes: Local Ingenuity, Bandung Futuristik (Futuristic Bandung), which imagines the future of Bandung, and Bandung Model Alam Lestari (the Bandung Model of Sustainable Nature), which paints the city as a green city.
“We hope [the project] will educate passersby as well as children,” said #MuralBdg concept creator Andi Yudha. (kes)
