'Warkop DKI Reborn' tops this year's box office

t's been fewer than two weeks since Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss Part 1's release, and its reportedly attracted over 4.5 million moviegoers making it the country's most popular movie this year.

According to recent data from filmindonesia.or.id, the film dominated the box office chart for movies released in 2016 with 4,687,720 viewers, beating the previous top record-holder Ada Apa dengan Cinta 2 (What's Up with Cinta 2) and My Stupid Boss that collected 3,665,509 and 3,052,657 audiences, respectively.

"I simply cannot contain my happiness in hearing the news. Hopefully the euphoria does not stop here," said one of the lead actors, Vino G. Bastian, as quoted by tempo.co.

The film producer Frederica from Falcon Pictures also expressed her gratitude, "obviously I'm very happy with this earnings. Achieving the second rank of Indonesian box office of sales of all time is an accomplishment indeed."

Directed by Anggy Umbara, the movie also broke the record for most viewers in one day in the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI). (kes)
