Watch ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ latest trailer The spin-off, produced by Lucasfilm, will take place in the same time period of Star Wars episodes “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.” (Lucasfilm/-)

T

he latest trailer of the much-anticipated “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” went online Friday and it showcases even more juicy tidbits that moviegoers can look forward to in December.

The new trailer paints the picture of just how desperate people have become under the rule of the Empire and the state of the ragtag organization that constitutes the Rebellion.

We also get another look at possibly the most intriguing character in the movie. The Emperial officer in the white uniform who is speculated as inspired by Grand Admiral Thrawn is seen and heard talking with Darth Vader. Then in a second scene he meets with Vader again at another location.

Rogue One is a story of how the Rebel Alliance managed to steal plans for the Emperial Death Star, which will then be used to bring it down in A New Hope.

Showing how dire the rebellion’s situation while being encapsulated by an overall theme of “hope” is a nice touch to directly connect the story to the original trilogy’s Episode 4. The trailer alone mentions the word “hope” several times and is punctuated by a line from Jyn Erso, the story’s protagonistherself: “We have hope. Rebellions are built on hope.”

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will be out in theaters on Dec. 16.
