hatsApp, the Facebook-owned instant messaging service, has extended its support for the Blackberry OS platforms. The decision was made as more of a nod to long-time BlackBerry users that owned handhelds supported by BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 operating systems.
Ultimately, WhatsApp decided to extend support for BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 due to demands voiced by users who still have BlackBerry smartphones in their possession. Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 users will also receive an extended period of support.

“As we mentioned in our blog, we plan to no longer support several platforms, and will be supporting a few until the end of June 2017," said a WhatsApp spokesperson on Tuesday.
As reported by tempo.co, WhatsApp previously planned to discontinue its services by January 2017 for platforms such as BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and 2.2, Windows Phone 7 and iPhone 3GS/iOS 6. (fmn/kes)
