T

hree local artists from different disciplines are showcasing their works around the theme "Trade of Innovations" at the second edition of the Olveh Flagship exhibition in Gedung Olveh, West Jakarta.

Officially opened on Thursday and slated to run until Jan. 10, the three artists are Muhammad Thamrin, the architect who helmed the Indonesian Pavilion at the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair, award-winning designer Singgih Susilo Kartono, who founded Magno-Piranti Works and is currently based in Kandangan village in Temanggung, Central Java, and is involved in developing the local community, and Riduan, who is known for his paintings that depict mystical Javanese cultures.

The event also features local foods like chocolate from Jakarta-based Pipiltin Cocoa, wine from Bali's Sababay Winery and tea from Gaia Tea and The t Story.

Independent Research and Advisory Indonesia (IRAI) CEO Lin Che Wei said during a press conference that the local arts industry was still lacking a curatorial process. “It makes us confused when we want to exhibit Indonesian products overseas,” he said. Since we are currently entering the globalization era, Lin suggests the nation promote and curate local products.

The quarterly exhibition calls on the government and private institutions to recognize that innovation in creative industries and food commodities could help represent the country in a global setting. (kes)
