s Indonesia is set to host the National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas) on Dec. 12 to 14, a survey by Singapore-based e-commerce platform ShopBack suggested that the first day of the event would be the peak of event's shopping activity.
According to the November survey, which involved 2,734 people, 31.6 percent of respondent said they would purchase items during the opening day, while 13.9 percent preferred to shop on the second day and 3.9 percent on the last day.
The reason most respondents were choosing to shop on Dec. 12 was because many consumers thought that Harbolnas was a one-day event, said ShopBack Indonesia country manager Indra Yonathan on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co. "The fact that Dec. 12 is also a national holiday also affects consumers' choice," he said.

In terms of shopping place, the survey found that 65.4 percent of respondents stated that they would shop from home instead of the office, 60 percent were considering to shop at 2 to 3 e-commerce websites and 16.7 percent said they would check out more than 5 sites. “Although up to 200 e-commerce platforms will participate in this event, it has no significant affect on [the shoppers' decision],” said Indra.
But new e-commerce players can rejoice as 87 percent of respondents also have said they are particularly interested in shopping at e-commerce platforms that they have never visited before. (mas/kes)
