f you’re yearning for some unconventional weekend activity, consider playing with clay and trying out your skills at pottery. Just drop by the National Gallery in Jakarta to check out the 4th Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale.
Aside from feasting their eyes on contemporary ceramic works, visitors can make their own ceramic creations. Ganara Art Space holds a pottery workshop behind Building A of the National Gallery. The workshop is held every weekend until the exhibition’s last day, Jan. 22.
According to kompas.com, adults can participate in an adults-only class on Saturday, while the children’s class is available every Sunday. Both classes are held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. For the fee of Rp 175,000 for the adults-only class and Rp 150,000 for the children class, participants are allowed to keep their own creations.
However, they do not get to take their creations home right away, as those half-finished products still need to undergo the clay-firing process to become finished ceramic artworks. According to the organizers, participants may collect their ceramic artworks at the Ganara Art Space in Kemang by appointment, two weeks after the event.
The 4th Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale, which runs from Dec. 7 to Jan. 22, exhibits ceramic artworks of 41 artists from 20 countries. (asw)
