ouTube has released a list of popular videos in 2016 that were selected based on their view count, number of shares, comments, likes and more.
Ranging from vlogs to parodies, the YouTube Rewind list is divided into video and music video categories.
This year, seven of the 10 most popular videos in Indonesia are original works from the nation’s young generation with local YouTubers like Chandra Liouw, Edho Zell, Eka Gustiwana and LASTDAY Production edging onto the list.
Ten of the most popular videos in Indonesia currently have a combined total of 43 million views, twice the amount last year of 21 million views.
The video content stays grounded, as it shares jocular skits and snippets of everyday life in Indonesia with its audiences, including videos Tipikal Anak Muda Indonesia (Typical Indonesian youths) from LASTDAY Production, YouTube Anthem Indonesia 2016 on the Edho Zell channel, and PILOK #4: Adu Panco (Arm wrestle) by Kaesang, who is the son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.

Meanwhile, in the category of most popular music videos, Indonesia saw entries like Anji’s Dia (She), Pamit (Goodbye) from Tulus and Pelangi (Rainbow) by HIVI! As for the global list, Fifth Harmony topped the chart with 1 billion views, while Work by Rihanna featuring Drake broke the record for the most viewed video within 24 hours of release.
Google Indonesia communications head Putri Silalahi said this year's list showed rapid development from both YouTube creators and audiences in Indonesia. “Seeing how local content is being increasingly searched for and praised, we cannot wait for the appearance of more creativity and talent next year.”
The full list and the videos can be watched on its official website. (mra/kes)
