ndonesia is looking for participants for the upcoming South by Southwest Conference and Festival (SXSW) 2017 in Texas’s capital city Austin, the United States, Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) announced.

Bekraf said the country would be joining the festival under a program called Archipelageek, which is said to promote Indonesia’s status as the world’s largest archipelagic state, combined with the word ‘geek’.

“It is time for Indonesia to be active in creative economy sectors, such as film, music and interactive media business,” Bonifasius Pudjianto, the agency’s foreign market development director, said in an official statement. “Indonesia’s participation in SXSW is a good opportunity to give international access to local musicians, film producers, business people and creative technology makers.”

Bekraf will select five digital startups, three feature films, several short films as well as up to 10 musicians or bands to join the festival, registration for which is open until Thursday.

SXSW Conference and Festival is an annual event that began in 1987 in Austin, Texas, the US. It highlights interactive technology, films and the music industry and expects to draw approximately 87,000 participants from all over the globe through more than 2,000 sessions this year.
