"Pokemon Go" and "solar eclipse" were named the most searched keywords by Indonesians on Google in 2016, followed by "Timnas Indonesia" (Indonesian national soccer team), "Aceh earthquake" and "Donald Trump".
"Pokemon Go" and "Donald Trump" were also the most searched keywords globally.
During the announcement of Year in Search 2016, Google Indonesia managing director Tony Kuesgen also revealed "Jessica Kumala Wongso's trial" as the most searched keyword on mobile devices.

As in previous years, the data was gathered from the most trending searches with the highest spikes in traffic. This year, however, Indonesians are said to have tended to search for different perspectives in different areas of interest.
"People were looking for perspective. For example, they were searching for the reason [behind the] Nov. 4 rally," said Kuesgen.
Furthermore, there were also significant increases in "near by" searches, such as "beauty saloon near me" or "restaurant near me". (kes)
