imbim, the drummer with the legendary band Slank, has released a statement on why the band has decided to support Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and his running mate, Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, for the 2017 gubernatorial election, following the pair's visit to the band’s base camp at Gang Potlot III in South Jakarta on Thursday.

Born and raised in Jakarta, Bimbim said that what Ahok and Djarot had done was equivalent to Slank’s anti-corruption campaign.

He also expressed his concerns about Jakarta’s massive regional budget (APBD).

“If the person who handles [the APBD] is not serious, honest and clean, it can be dangerous,” he told kompas.com.

Slank hopes the band's decision will be followed by their fans, also known as Slankers.

“If [the election] goes for a second round, we promise that we will be directly involved [to give our support]. Hopefully, it will only be a first-round election,” Bimbim said.

On Thursday, Ahok and Djarot paid a visit to Gang Potlot III where they met Slank’s manager Bunda Iffet. While there, the candidates enjoyed nasi potlot (potlot rice) that consists of rice, shredded meat, siomay (steamed fish dumplings and vegetables in peanut sauce) and asinan (pickled vegetables).
