Want to win a date with British actor Idris Elba? All you need is $10.
Well, not really. With $10 you can stand a chance to win a date with the suave Elba. It’s actually for a good cause; in this case it is to help raise funds for the non-profit organization W.E. (Women Everywhere) Can Lead, which aims to empower girls by providing “educational opportunity, leadership development and mentoring support necessary to become the new generation of female leaders across the continent of Africa.”
Elba is collaborating with Omaze, a US-based website that raises funds for non-profit organizations around the world through online auctions, usually involving a celebrity or a well-known brand.
In a tongue-in-cheek video released by Omaze, Elba offers fans the chance to go on a date with him. “I’d like you to be my Valentine. That’s right love, just you and me, no one else around; just us.”

All you need to do is to head over to the Idris Elba page on the Omaze website and follow the instructions given. Currently, you can still “join” for free, but if you want higher chances of “winning”, then you can donate from as little as US$10 (RM43) to as much as US$25,000 (RM107,500).
If you do win, you and a guest get to join Elba for a meal at one of his favorite restaurants. There’s no mention of how long you get to spend time with him but if the video is any indication, it would probably be long enough for you to have champagne, truffles, pepper soup, fufu and… Elba’s yams.
Flights and accommodation will also be included in the package. Do make sure you read all the terms and conditions presented on the Omaze website before taking part. There are also several other auctions and campaigns currently running on the site like “tour the YG Entertainment building with G-Dragon” and “join Channing Tatum at the Magic Mike Live premiere and after-party”!
