Uber has made ride-hailing a lot easier, as rides can now be requested via Google Maps.
The integration between Uber and Google Maps is powered by Uber’s API, the company’s open platform for third-party developers to integrate Uber services into their own applications, as the company explains on its website.
“With this integration, you can request, complete a ride and pay for Uber without exiting from the Google Maps [app],” said Google senior product manager Sara McKinley Torti in a blog post.

When choosing a transportation mode on Google Maps, users will be presented with a simpler interface of ride-sharing options, instead of a long, tedious list of ride service providers. The Uber icon will show in the lower part of the screen, and users can easily request an UberX, UberBlack, UberPool, or UberMotor -- a driver will be immediately searched afterwards.
According to kompas.com, this newest ride service experience was launched on Jan. 12 on both Android and iOS globally, though it is reportedly not yet available for everyone, including Indonesian users. (mra/kes)
