A photo of Sriwijaya Airlines transporting a live dolphin went viral on Twitter on Wednesday.

According to tempo.co, singer and activist Melanie Subono posted the photo on her Twitter account, criticizing the airline for the manner in which it transported the mammal from Jakarta to Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The dolphin appears from the photo to have been put inside a box without water.

Taman Impian Jaya Ancol head of corporate communications Rika Lestari said the shipment procedure followed health and safety regulations and the process was overseen by a doctor.

"The management has a permit to host an animal show as well as to transport animals," said Rika in a press release, adding that the company was protected by the General Director of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation Regulations number P.1/IV-SET/2014 regarding the shipment of dolphins.
