fter enabling the sending of animated GIF format images to iPhone users in November last year, WhatsApp is now offering Android users the same feature.
After downloading the 2.17.27 version of Whatsapp from the Google Play Store, Android users can send GIF animations by choosing files from their photo and video library. Inside the library, users simply have to select “share” and opt for WhatsApp, the same process used for sending different format image or video files.

Once the GIF reaches the receiver, the file will show up as a thumbnail with a “GIF” label. The animation will be automatically activated when the thumbnail is clicked. WhatsApp only allows the animation to last for a maximum of six seconds, according to kompas.com.
Aside from sending and receiving GIF files, WhatsApp also includes an integrated GIF search engine with Tenor or Giphy, which can be accessed by clicking the “emoji” icon on the left that shows up when typing messages. Various GIF files will be displayed in a different tab beside the emoji column. (wir/asw)
