Billboard states that the surprise news racked up a total of 6.6 million likes on Instagram within eight hours after it was uploaded on the social platform on Wednesday, as mentioned in Time.com. At press time, the post has notched 7.1 million likes and 360,000 comments.

The 20-time Grammy winner has beaten Selena Gomez, the previous record holder for most likes on an Instagram picture. Gomez’ Instagram-sponsored post is a picture of herself sipping on a coke bottle that secured 6.3 million likes and 250,000 comments. 

According to Variety, excitement about the announcement extended to Twitter, as 500,000 tweets had been made regarding Beyoncé’s pregnancy within 45 minutes of the Instagram photo release.
