fundraising event was held at The Dharmawangsa hotel, South Jakarta, on Tuesday to support the construction and operation of the Nusa Waluya II floating hospital by the doctorSHARE Foundation.

Supported by Lions Club Jakarta and Pusat Jayakarta Jaya in collaboration with clubs under the auspices of Lions Clubs International District 307-A1, the charity event featured an art auction and a concert.

Organized by ISA Art Advisory and Can’s Gallery, the art auction showcased artwork from local talents Andy Dewantoro, Ay Tjoe Christine, Entang Wiharso, Oky Rey Montha and Sinta Tantra.

“These pieces of art are from the major contemporary painters in Indonesia,” Nusa Waluya II project head Julia Windasari Tan told The Jakarta Post, adding that the artworks had been selected by professional art curator Deborah Iskandar.

Meanwhile, the concert featured a performance by piano maestro Ananda Sukarlan.

In addition to the art auction and concert, the fundraising event also hosted a limited edition Stellarissa x doctorSHARE scarf sale.

The event raised 5.16 billion (US$387,928), which will be used for the construction of the Nusa Waluya II floating hospital.

“Prior to the [art auction and charity concert] event, we had raised 60 percent of our target [Rp 10.8 billion for the construction of the floating hospital and Rp 5 billion for its first six months of operations] through several programs,” shared Julia.

The Nusa Waluya II is planned to be bigger than two existing floating hospitals.

“The facilities are highly similar to a type-D hospital,’” said Julia.

The Nusa Waluya II vessel is set to sail around Maluku for three to six months, providing health care services and education for residents in remote areas.

The doctorSHARE Foundation still welcomes anyone wishing to participate in the charity program.

Founded in 2009 by Dr. Lie Dharmawan, the doctorSHARE Foundation operates hospital boats in remote areas across the archipelago. (asw)
