oogle could possibly be changing up its phone release patterns in the coming year. While the tech giant has been known for releasing two Android phones each fall, three of Google’s own Pixel phones may be hitting the shelves in 2017.
While Google’s most recent report has asserted that they will only be releasing their usual duo, The Android Open Source Project has found that Google is working on three different phones, code-named Muskie, Walleye and Taimen.

Muskie and Walleye are likely follow-ups to the standard Pixel phone and the Pixel XL, respectively, but there is still no word on what Taimen may be. Some believe that it might be a tablet, or possibly an even bigger phone with a display larger than that of the Pixel XL.
As for the release date? There is no exact word yet, but Google's head of hardware Rick Osterloh did drop some hints in an interview with AndroidPit, as reported by Phone Arena: “There is an annual rhythm in the industry. So, you can count on us to follow it. You can count on a successor this year, even if you don't hear a date from me now.” (sul/kes)
