Mexican hotel named Hotel California in Todos Santos is being sued by American rock band the Eagles for using the name of the band’s 1977 song without permission.
In the lawsuit, the band claims that the owners of Hotel California, otherwise known as Todos Santos Hotel, "actively encourage” its visitors to believe that the establishment is related to the band in order to sell merchandise.
The 11-room hotel located in Baja California Sur also allegedly plays the song "Hotel California", along with other Eagles songs throughout the hotel, and sells apparel that refers to the hotel as “legendary”.

"Defendants lead US consumers to believe that the Todos Santos Hotel is associated with the Eagles and, among other things, served as the inspiration for the lyrics in Hotel California, which is false," read the complaint filed on May 1.
The suit was filed in Los Angeles federal court and looks to cease the infringement.
According to Reuters, the Todos Santos Hotel was originally named Hotel California when it opened its doors in 1950, but after management changes resulted in different names, current owners John and Debbie Stewart decided to use its original name for marketing purposes, according to the lawsuit.
