ike Mignola, creator of “Hellboy”, recently announced on Facebook that a new Hellboy movie is in the works. It will be R-rated and won’t include Guillermo del Toro.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Millennium is currently in negotiations with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin for a new Hellboy movie to reboot and relaunch the franchise.
They also mentioned that Neil Marshall will be the new director in place of Guillermo del Toro who directed the first two Hellboy movies. Marshall was the man behind “The Descent” and “Game of Thrones”.
The working title for the R-rated Hellboy movie is “Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen”. Scriptwriting is being handled by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Mike Mignola himself.
“Stranger Things” star David Harbour is currently being targeted to play Hellboy.
The “Hellboy” comic series made its debut in 1993 and became an indie hit. It told the story of a demon that was found and raised by a professor who works for an organization called the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. Hellboy is then tasked with fighting paranormal evildoers and entities, from folklore to Lovecraftian horrors.
Since the last Hellboy movie, del Toro had thrown out numerous hints of a new installment. It’s rather ironic that a new movie is finally getting made but without him at the helm.
