erhaps there will never be an end to the competition between the two celebrated comic publishing companies Marvel and DC, especially when it comes to their movies.
Starting from Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit Indonesian cinemas in June, and will be followed by Thor: Ragnarok for The Avengers fans. Meanwhile, DC Extended Universe released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last year. After that, the long-awaited Wonder Woman and Justice League movies will follow.
Keeping up with the hype, an Australia-based media intelligence company, Isentia, has monitored Indonesian internet users’ discussions about these movies. The monitoring was conducted within the last three months, from Feb. 11 to May 11, to measure what movies were most talked-about by netizens.
The results show that Marvel movies saw more discussions than DC films. Meanwhile, characters like Thor or Spider-Man attracted greater discussion than Wonder Woman or the superhero team in Justice League.

The most discussion related to Thor: Ragnarok with over 4,500 posts, while Spider-Man: Homecoming landed in the second position with more than 4,000 posts. Justice League was in the third position with more than 1,570 posts and Wonder Woman sat in last position with over 1,540 posts.
“From the monitoring results using Isentia’s technology, there were 8,695 posts [73.61 percent] for Marvel movies compared to the 3,117 posts [26.39 percent] for DC movies,” said the general country manager of Isentia Jakarta, Luciana Budiman, in a press release. “The discussion theme focuses on movie trailers posted on YouTube and new actors portraying the superheroes.”
In addition to that, although Marvel movies were discussed with positive tonality, there were also negative comments from netizens about the movies. “Some internet users criticized the less than interesting storyline compared to previous movies,” she added. “DC Comics movies also received negative comments because of product promotion.” (asw)
