At the opening of the traditional dance class at the Museo de las Culturas, Indonesian Ambassador to the United Mexican States, Yusra Khan, said that music is a universal language that can be received by anyone from different nations. The same goes to dances, as throughout the FICA 2017, Indonesian music and dances have introduced Indonesian culture to Mexicans.
In a dance workshop titled Taller de Danza Indonesia, participants are encouraged to dance the Manadonese dence Poco-Poco and Florenese dance Gemu Famire. About 60 participants were led by Moestaryanti Puruhita, an Indonesian diaspora who supports Indonesian dance promotion activities at the Mexico City embassy and several Indonesian representatives in Latin America.
Following the workshop at Mexico’s oldest cultural museum, participants were invited to learn Indonesian dances at the embassy and discover Indonesian culture more deeply by participating in the country’s Darmasiswa scholarship program.
Indonesia also held a cooking class titled Taller de Comida Indonesia at the Casa de la Primera Imprenta de America cultural center. Catering chef Sariah and chef I Wayan Sarifan introduced Indonesian snacks bakwan and tempe mendoan to the participants. (asw)
