ith the qualifications for tennis matches like the French Open at Roland-Garros underway and Wimbledon just around the corner, now is a great time to get back out on the court.
Here are five new models of tennis shoe for 2017 for optimal comfort and performance.
The new Adidas Barricade – which will be worn by French tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at this year’s French Open – feature the brand’s Boost technology ensuring energy return in every step thanks to responsive cushioning. These shoes are suitable for even the heaviest builds and for anyone looking to protect their ankles and go easy on their joints.
ADITUFF technology reinforces the shoes to resist abrasion during moves like slamming serves and sliding. The shoes are suitable for all court surfaces and can, therefore, be used for several sports.
Weighing just 351g, the Babolat Jet All Court is a comfortable shoe that ensures good freedom of movement thanks to its featherweight design and its comfortable lightweight upper. As a result, this shoe is more suitable to lighter players who don’t have joint problems.
The shoe’s technology allows for fast, energetic movements and ensures good support. The new rubber sole, developed with Michelin, promises improved resistance for greater durability. Men’s and women’s models are available.

Despite its lightweight design, the Asics Court FFF ensures stability thanks to a shock-absorbing GEL system positioned at the back and the front of the foot. The shoe boasts strong performance on bounce back and responsiveness, letting players stop, turn and sprint quickly.
The shoe’s Impact Guidance System (IGS) absorbs shocks and heel strike, guides the foot into a neutral position at mid stance, and maintains the most natural possible position throughout propulsion.

After being worn last year by brand ambassador Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka, the 2017 version of the Yonex Power Cushion Eclipsion has been slightly modified. The Power Cushion sole has notably been strengthened to improve stability, which is good news for players prone to instability around the ankle. This makes the shoe a little heavier (408g compared to 398g for the 2016 version).
The shoe is a safe bet that is robust and suitable for neutral to wide feet, as well as heavier builds thanks to its quality impact absorption.
Japanese brand Mizuno is back with an improved model of its Mizuno Wave Exceed Tour, boasting a more lightweight build (360g versus 390g). The shoe is designed for all types of courts and has the same plus points as the previous version – comfort, flexibility and stability. Cushioning has notably been improved with 22% of shocks absorbed at the heel. It is best for neutral to slim feet, only those with the largest feet may notice a little discomfort at the font of the foot.
