espite the positive press that the Wonder Woman movie has been receiving, Lebanon wants to ban the film from being shown in the country because of the ethnicity of its lead actress, Gal Gadot.
Gadot, who plays the titular character, is Israeli.
A security official has told The Telegraph that a formal request for a ban has yet to be made. A ban would have to begin with a recommendation from a six-member committee from the Ministry of Economy, which has not yet happened.
The movie has been scheduled to play in at least one Beirut theater and promotion for the film has appeared within the city over the last few weeks.

"The state took the right decision," Samah Idriss, a Lebanese member the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel and a supporter of the ban, told the Associated Press. "We now await the implementation. [...] Even if it is one hour before the show, they should ban it anyway.”
Both officials at Lebanon's Economy Ministry and Warner Bros., which released the film, have reportedly declined to comment. (sul/kes)
