new trend is gaining traction among local celebrities who are galvanizing fans to support charitable causes as part of their birthdays.
As reported by kompas.com, singers and actors are turning to charity-focused crowdfunding website kitabisa.com in celebration of their birthday to raise money for various causes, ranging from education for underprivileged children to child cancer treatments.
Most recently, singer Raisa Andriana also jumped on the bandwagon by marking her 27th birthday on June 6 with the target to raise Rp 27 million (US$2,028) to be donated to underprivileged school children in a remote island in Papua.
"I want to see Indonesian children flourishing and progressing. Their happiness is my happiness too," Raisa said on the campaign page on kitabisa.com

The recently-engaged singer says all funds will be donated to donasibuku.id (https://www.instagram.com/donasibuku.id/) to provide books, shoes and school uniforms for children in Biak, a small island located in Cenderawasih bay near the northern coast of Papua.
Earlier this year, singer Vidi Aldiano, who turned 27 on March 29, was able to raise over Rp 16 million to help fund schooling for a fourth grader named Misbah. On the website, Vidi had attached a picture of Misbah along with a letter written by the boy describing his dreams of becoming a policeman.

Meanwhile, Indro, an actor in the popular comedy Warkop, decided to celebrate his 59th birthday on May 8 by aiming to raise Rp 59 million to help fund treatment for children suffering with cancer through the Pita Kuning Foundation. So far, Indro's campaign has collected over Rp 17.3 million.
Actress Tatjana Saphira on her 20th birthday on May 20 appealed to raise funds in support of brain cancer treatment for a child named Kemal. As many as 82 donators accumulated over Rp 20.5 million for Kemal's medical treatment.
Fellow actress Chelsea Islan, meanwhile, was able to raise over Rp 22.5 million for her birthday set to be handed to Muhammad Wildan Febrianto, a student from Yogyakarta to help with his school fees.
Comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono has also joined the crowd ahead of his birthday on June 18, aiming to raise Rp 20 million for child cancer patients through the Pita Kuning Indonesia Foundation. (liz/kes)
