ndonesian drama film Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts, the only selected feature film from Southeast Asia at the Cannes Film Festival 2017 in May, has continued to draw crowds across France.
Thousands have come to watch the film, Mouly Surya, the director of the film, told kompas.com on Monday.
“A movie theater can accommodate an audience of 800 per screening and it’s generally always full. One time there was a screening for invitations only, but generally it’s always a full house,” Mouly said, adding that the movie was still being screened in France.
“If I’m not mistaken, the movie was shown four or five times. I wasn’t at every screening."

“The movie is currently being screened in several cities in France. It’s all in the website, but it’s mostly written in French so I have a hard time following it. On June 10, the movie was screened in Paris," she said.
Audiences, Mouly said, were very responsive to the movie. “When I attended screenings, I saw their enthusiasm. I can’t say which one, but in a particular scene, they all clapped and were very appreciative,” she said.
Mouly also said that audience members and film critics asked her about women’s issues in Indonesia.
“There are a lot of specific questions regarding Indonesian women. How women are in society, where inspiration for the film's story came from. Mostly they asked about that." (asw)
