khadi “Kaka” Wira Satriaji, the frontman of legendary rock band Slank, held a charity concert in Manado, North Sulawesi, on Monday for the province’s environmental preservation programs.

Titled "Suara Anak Pulau" (Voices of Island Children), the event aims to support four islands in North Sulawesi, namely Kinabuhutan, Talisei, Bangka and Gangga.

The musician told tempo.co that he felt the urge to back the causes as the environment belongs to the next generation.

He mentioned that North Sulawesi’s beautiful landscape would be a waste if people failed to protect it.

“It is our responsibility to protect the environment in North Sulawesi,” said Kaka.

Meanwhile, Ulva Novita Takke, promoter and founder of Suara Pulau Foundation, explained that funds from the charity concert would be used to support the Belajar Bersama Alam (Learning with Nature) program.

“Targeting elementary and junior high school students, the program will be implemented in several villages across the four islands,” Ulva said.

Belajar Bersama Alam has brought education to the aforementioned islands for the past five years.

“We call them 'the island children.' They need to have a better quality of life than their previous generation,” said Ulva. (jes/kes)
